Infrared heat therapy, also known as thermotherapy, is the application of infrared heat to the body to relieve pain and promote health. It is a therapeutic method known since ancient times throughout the world.
Today, infrared heat therapy is used among others for restorative purposes. In physical therapy we use special lamps emitting infrared light. As soon as the infrared light falls on our body, it is absorbed by the tissues and their temperature increases. When this is achieved, a series of processes occur in the tissue cells, with the following results:
Vasodilation and increase in skin blood flow, which results in increased oxygen supply and transport of nutrients to the tissues.
